Who we are

PiggyMath is an independent educational website of free financial calculators for US freelancers, side-hustlers and anyone making everyday money decisions. The PiggyMath Editorial Desk builds each tool, dual-checks the math against published IRS and SSA figures, and keeps tax-year constants current.

We are not a CPA firm, law firm, broker, lender, or IRS-authorized e-file provider. Nobody here is holding out as your personal tax advisor.

Why we exist

Freelancers are asked to estimate taxes without payroll withholding — often with blog posts that still say “just save 30%.” We wanted a calm, browser-only place to see your numbers: self-employment tax, quarterly estimates, set-asides, QBI and the deductions that actually change the bill.

Plan & set aside — we don’t e-file. When you are ready to file, take our estimates into licensed software or an accountant. Use the filing prep checklist to see which forms usually apply.

How we verify

Every calculator is implemented twice from the underlying formula or IRS instruction. Both versions must agree across ordinary and awkward edge cases before a tool ships. We document that process — including mistakes it caught in our own code — on the methodology page.

Tax figures for 2026 (wage base, brackets, standard deduction and related constants) come from SSA and IRS publications such as Revenue Procedure 2025-32. We cross-check each constant against at least two independent sources and keep them in data/tax-constants-2026.json — see the Tax Constants 2026 reference with inline source links. Calculator runtime mirrors those values in assets/app.js and a verify script keeps them aligned.

Privacy by design

No signup. Calculator inputs never leave your browser — there is no server-side store of the numbers you type. See the privacy policy.

Optional tools on result screens

Some tax calculators show a short list of third-party tools after the estimate — currently Keeper (receipt / write-off capture) and FreshBooks (invoicing). Those links are optional, not required to use the math, and they do not receive your calculator inputs. The Keeper link is a live affiliate URL; we may earn a commission if you become a customer. FreshBooks still goes to the public homepage until that program issues a tracking ID. Found (business banking) is paused — we do not list it as a current tool. Full wording: Affiliate disclosure.
